Enough of the climbing talk.

Modest Mouse I can't get them out of my playlist. I've been listing to their last album for almost a month solid -- its great indie goodness.

What has everyone else been lisitining too?

Got any good suggestions?

That's hilarious, I was just listening to "Never ending math equation" as I read your post.

I am pretty unoriginal, but here's some suggestions you *might* not have... fire up your P2P:

Check out Saul Williams - Amethyst Rockstar.. not the whole album, but check out "Omni American", "1987", "Penny for a thought", "Our father"..

The New Deal - "Technobeam"

Not original, but I enjoy:

Tool - "The Patient", "The Grudge", "No Quarter", "Eulogy"
Paul Oakenfold - "Ready steady go", "Nixon's spirit", "Get 'em up" (bad taste, I know)

And of course - Anything from Rage Against the Machine, especially:

"People of the sun", "Calm like a bomb", "Renegades", "Pistol Grip Pump", "Bullet in your head"

And in honour of Canada: My favs from Tragically Hip (newish) include "Silver Jets", "Gus: The polar bear from central park", "Vapour Trails", "Emperor Penguins", "Fireworks"..

Cool suggestions.

I've also been listing to a lot of Franz Ferdianand and PJ harvey too.

I will check out Boards of Canada I've been meaning to do that for awhile.

I also like Thompson Girl and Natuical disaster by the Hip.

Rage is a given. But if you like that sound and you like sonic youth in the least check out ikara colt. I think there web site is http://www.ikaracolt.com/ and they are much better then sonic youth.

yep modes mouse has been on my playlist for a few years, their new album hasn't left my CD case in my car yet. Funny cause I just got home and went to a friends party and at the end of the night that's who we were listening too.

Nice choices mathieu,

I'd add all three of the Weakerthans Albums to that list. They are one of my favorite bands. They have such good song writting.

The Arcade Fire rule, I just added them the other day.

I also added Interpol, the Go! Team, and palaxy train.

All are really good. The go team is a little weird, but still cool.

SInce i'm stuck in my hotel room in beautiful Brooks alberta with no climbing in sight, might as well participate in this non-climbing discussion.

For the folky type of music, i'd recommend Greg MacPherson. It really grows on you. For the punk fans out there, try New Bomb Turks album Information Superhighway, its good from start to finish. Also for the Pixies fan out there, check out Frank Black's (pixie frontman) latest solo work "Frank Black and the Catholics", the best albums are the first self titled one and "Black Letter Days".

My odd music collection includes. Nomeansno, its sorta of a darker/punk version of Rush. If you like odd background noise try Tom Waits latest album its similar to his "Bone Machine" album.

I had totally forgotten about the New Deal. I can't stand to listen to them on CD but their live shows kick ass. Other band that kicks ass live is the Rheostatics, they were touring lately if you missed them too bad for you.

I listened to Interpol a bit during the Holidays, nothing spectacular overall but some songs are really catchy.

On a similar non climbing topic, just watched life Aquatic with Steve Zissou. It's a good movie, but what is really great is the music during the film. It includes Devo, New Order, Iggy Pop, David Bowie and some really neat Portugese versions of classic David Bowie songs such as Rebel Rebel and Life on Mars. Wes Anderson (director) always has good soundtrack to his movies.

Another band that is awsome live is the Debonaires http://www.thedebonaires.com/ -- if you are into ska/rock steady/reggae. Although you'll have to wait a year to see them again in Canada -- the got stopped at the border coming here to Victoria and were told to go home.

Their cd's are hard to find in stores you are better off getting them on their site.

I liked life Aquatic, the sound track was awsome. But I think its time for Wes Anderson to branch out a little more. All his movies feel the same now. I just watched Bottle Rocket for the first time a few weeks ago I really enjoyed that one.

Devo is one of my favorite bands they had so many great songs.
They are a really political -- more punk then a lot of people give them credit for.

SOme other cool Canadian bands I've been listing too are Death From Above 1979, Metric, Grad The Gun.

The new Bloc Party, British Sea Power, and the Decemberists are worth a listen too.
