Sorrows End

Postby granite_grrl » Thu Dec 22, 2005 11:14 am

Was thinking of trying to get to Sorrows End on Sunday afternoon, haven't been ther since the new trails have been cut. How are the trails now, easy to follow? Still marked with tape?

Even if I don't get out there climbing I'd like to take the hike to show the bf some of the cliffs in the area (T-bay is close to my parent's place). Any other suggestions for good sights to see for a rock climbing? My parents live in Brookside, by Hatchet Lake.

Yeah, the trail is still fairly well marked. A compass may be a good idea though.

I always seem to get lost on the way out though and end up having to go stealth through some guys back yard. Sorry, some guy, it is always an accident.

Maybe go check out LOC while you are out that way.

The new path doesn't seem shorter to me at all and it's always wetter. If you go through Nice View it's a lot more scenic. You can see across to the ocean a lot of the way and stuff...

the new way is chossy in winter the hill gets icy go with nice view and you won't get lost. the only bonus about the new way is ending up on top of the crag.

Man Nice View is a way longer hike unless your driving in to the boulders (which we are not suposed to do).

i call beautiful flowers on that we timed it 20 mins road to the cliff both ways-no driving to the boulders. in the summer it may be a bit longer hiking through the swamps but in the winter they are close to the same-plus you can run up nice view if you want

With scenic-ness in mind, the new path is crap, like a dank, dark tunnel through the woods. If your not an idoit you can get through the old path dry as a bone, while looking at boulders and lakes etc. They are both about the same length it seems to me at least.. only one is..less gooder

So your saying that if you park next to the sign that says nice view drive and hike from there into Sorrows, its about the same amount of time to hike in as going on the new trail? Its like 1.5 times the distance, you have to backtrack and then hike around a lake. I agree that hiking Nice View is much more scenic and still a worthwhile hike, but much longer and more time consuming. I have hiked both ways several times, and once on the same day. Sorry I can't buy that they are the same hiking time.

keepin mind that the map is not the territory- like i said we timed both and they are within minutes of the same time this may be because you can make better time onthe nice view road or for some other reason-I even find the old way is less wet if you walk with your eyes open. hell looking at the map im suprised that nice veiw is the same time but we hiked back there at least 20 times and its the same- one day wheni was late for work at bg after camping at sorrows i ran nice view in 10 minutes, i got soaked but got to work on time, ha nathan remember that night "dude let me have your sweat shirt my backpack and the towel isn't cutting it, im freezing" -me
"STFU im tring to sleep"-nathan (in a warm sleeping bag using his sweat shirt for a pillow)

I believe that the last day for any hunting with the exception of native hunting is 15 DEC. Bear and Deer end 03 DEC with small game ending on 15 Dec. In some parts of NS like Cape Breton there are people hunting all year round. That does not preclude you from enjoying your right to hike on crown land just maybe some bright colors are not a bad idea. In Aug 2 years ago myself and Scott G were climbing at Cape Clear and we came across 2 drunk fellows hunting with high powered rifles. Pretty scary.

FYI,

My rack is 1/3rd complete! And its all your fault.

Any Idea who's going to organize this season's sunday ice days?

Not sure maybe Teth knows? Cool for the rack, I'm sure it will get major use this summer.

If anyone wants to volunteer, I can see about getting them hooked up with the CNS Ice Gear.
