Hey is anybody looking to sell some Ice axes. I'm looking to start this winter and don't want to get to much shiney stuff until I learn how to care for the gear. Awsome, thanks.

there was a pair of DMM Flys for sale on the MEC gear swap yesterday. These were my first tools and are a great affordable beginner ice tool. If you can afford it though, get a pair of Vipers (1st choice) or Quarks (2nd choice)

I say Quarks first choice and and Vipers Second choice, which goes to show that everyones preference is different.

For best results, don't spend a lot on your first tools. Get something like the DMM Flys or Aliens (both great tools and I climbed on them both for years) and climb for a year or so and test out lots of other tools to see what suits your swing, hand size, and general preference.

I think these were actually being sold by my friend Brent. If it was in fact the same seller then they're already sold (and I was probably a fool not to jump on his off to buy them off him in the first place!).

TOo bad for you that I'm not selling my tools (CM axars). I'm looking at buying new ones but my old ones are awesome alpine tools that I don't want to part with them. I would highly recommend the Axars, check the gear swap there is two pairs and one is really cheap (225 from a guy from manitoba, can't beat that).

the great thing about the DMM Fly is it's light and easy to swing for a beginner

I recommend getting good with a crappy tool (Lucky's, DMMs, X-15s, etc), then when you switch to something good, you'll become an ice god.

I started off with beat up Lucky's and look at me now!

Axars are a no frill light good swing tool, highly recommended by members of the calgary section ACC

the DMM flys feel much lighter than the Axars. They are comparable to the new Charlet Moser (Quasars?). The new tools with the orange handle and lock down leashes.

You're thinking of the aztars. Good tool.
