Welford Questions - Camping and Bald Peak

Postby troycole » Tue Aug 23, 2005 3:43 pm

Hello,

I'm wondering about camping at Cochrane Lane. I know in the past there were platforms and a camping area just past the Pyramid wall. And some people used to simply camp at the back of the farmers field. Are either of these options still available? If not, is there anywhere else nearby for camping?

My second question is about Bald Peak - that is the one on the other side of the highway behind the Irving... right? Sorry it's been over 15 years since I was there. Is it also on Millitary land? And if so does one pass cover you for both Bald Peak and Cochrane Lane?

Thanks in advance.

One pass covers you for both areas yes.

yes, there is camping in the back of the field or at the campsite on top of exfoliated wall.

No fires in either place and keep animals on a leash in the field.

This thread should have more info for you.. we had this conversation last week. :)

There used to be tent pad/platforms up at exfoliated but some inbreds used them for fire wood it seems. I wish I had of been there. I would have tossed their sleeping bag in to make a point.

there are still two nice flat spots for tents though
I want to go to hell... there's probably lots of rock to climb there.

I camped there a few years ago and the platforms were there then. It's too bad that they're gone but I'm sure after a hard day of climbing I could probably sleep on just about anything - flat or not.

Can't wait to climb there again. Leaving tomorrow afternoon!

Adam and I saw a Military Chopper hovering around the Welsford Valley... not too close to cochrane lane but within easy site. Sounds awesome from on top of routes.
