left most rock on cochrane lane

Postby vbpad » Fri Aug 19, 2005 9:13 am

I've been out there many times now and am wondering if there is any climbing available on the rock behind the houses on cochrane lane?
is it an access issue or has there not been any work there?

some routes were done there a long time ago. I've heard there is a bolt anchor on top of one of the cliffs. There are also rhumours of a very long 10-15ft high bouldering wall up there somewhere too. I'm talking about the wall up the hill right before you make the 90 turn.
I want to go to hell... there's probably lots of rock to climb there.

and I think it's also on CFB Gagetown so you'll have to get a pass as per usual

Myself and others checked out this area about 10 years ago. Someone had definitely made an effort to clean a few routes and there was at least one tree setup with slings as a TR anchor. We did one of the routes, but I don't think it was all that great.

The hike through the woods wasn't too bad, but obviously 10 years can change things a lot. There is indeed a short rock wall that runs for a fair ways, but we never really checked it out. Bouldering wasn't much on our radar back then. I'd say go check it out if you want to do some exploring.

I recall a 5.8ish crack of reasonable character as well as a rumor that Paul what's-his-face from SJ had developed the area and taught climbing there. Seems to me it was an interesting spot if nothing else.
