Heading for Europe

Hey folks. I am heading for Europe tomorrow, Tuesday; back in thirteen months. I don't expect anyone to feel sorry for me, but:

- CNS Sunday Ice Days will need a new organizer;
- no Festiglace for me this year;
- Thom will have to do more work around the house;
- the Stoners will be looking for one more drunk;
- I will not be around for Mike's return or Pete's memorial.

My climbing plans, as of today, are:

- Mont Blanc with guide mid-September;
- eastern France for multi-pitch rock early October;
- south-western Spain for multi-pitch sport late November;
- the Haut-Alpes for Ice in January; and
- Ben Nevis or Glencoe in the dead of winter.

If anyone is coming to Europe and wants to free-load off me and my family for a few days, please email me at mcmacinfrance @ hotmail.com. If you are interested in some summer alpine in the Alps in July-August 2006, let's get together and pool resources.

I will be living near Montpellier, in the south-west of France, between Sept 1/05 and June 30/06, then bumming around next summer. Hope to have a Blog site up and running in a month or so. Pictures to follow.

Yes, it worked out perfectly: a doctor visiting for a year from the U.K., with two kids.

I see that you found a house sitter, will they also be looking after your cat? I heard you were looking for a new (temporary) home for your kitty.

My cute, and only semi-deranged, cats have found a good home with a cat lover, making them number six and seven in the household.

When do you head off to Vietnam? That will also be an adventure. Sorry we didn't chat again before I left (no time for Monday nights out!).

Hi peter,
I really want a cat, but best I wait until I get back from my big adventure. if anyone needs a good home for a Cat come December, I need someone to keep me in silent company while i write my thesis.

I leave for Vietnam at the end of this month. I am really excited!! I didnt get out for Monday night boulder series as much as i wanted to, BUt youd be excited I did some trad climbing on the weekend.

People seriously look at you funny if you mention TRAD in France. We were at the Calanques where there is tons of multipitch sport. There are obviously trad lines there but most never get climbed or are bolted. You actually have to explain what you mean when you say traditional and make the camp springing hand motion/gesture untill they understand what you are talking about. Then they say... but zwhy? the iz tonz of z safe boltz foz clip. Ok Gaston!...

Actually, I lied: I did take a rack, an alpine rack and an ice rack, a few nuts, pitons and tri-cams, in addition to ice screws. I guess if I want to go traditional, it will have to be at altitude.
