free water climbing in Elgin

Postby gwa » Tue Aug 08, 2006 5:31 pm

Elgin's Famous cliff jumping area, Gibson, possesses some free water climbing. Beneath the main face where people jump off the cliff are at least a couple short routes (15-25 feet). The water is deep beneath the face (though you'd better check for yourself). The hard, smooth rock is probably metamorphic. Good top out as well.

Without dry hands, shoes, or chalk I was unable to make much progress on the left arete. The logistics of getting a towl and chalk to the climber is probably complicated.

Next time any of you Moncton folk are swimming/jumping there take your shoes for some sending.

p.s. watch out the broken beer bottles and drunks.

The same could be said about "The Gorge" in Musquash. Granite rather than meta... but the drunk yokels are the same.
