Climbing Closure

Postby Adam » Sun Oct 26, 2014 6:41 pm

Due to increased security measures in the wake of the two attacks on military personnel last week, recreational use of base Gagetown has been suspended.

Thankfully this is shoulder season and in some ways a closure couldn't come at a better time. Hopefully this won't last long, but in the meantime please respect the closure to avoid jeopardizing the future of access to these cliffs.

I will respect the closure but I think it is a ridiculous measure. Like you said - hopefully it does not last too long.

I attempted to go climbing at sunnyside today, but when I called into the base they informed me that there is no climbing on base property right now (I asked about Cochrane lane as well). The first person I talked to said that they were closed for all recreational activity and the second told me that only hunting was allowed. Hopefully this is another short term closure, but it was certainly a shock to me.

Range Control said something similar when I called in on Monday. They said there was training? There was not a single vehicle at Cochrane lane though...
