Recommendations: Climbing in Asia

Postby CaliMan » Wed Oct 05, 2011 9:35 pm

I'm traveling to Malaysia for a wedding, taking extra time for rock climbing? Where should I go?

The weddiing is on an island away from Kualla Lampur where most climbing in Malaysia is , but I can get there, but does anyone have better ideas for cool spots to check out over there? I'm limited to countries that I can get a visa on the spot for.

Thailand. Sport climbing off sandy beaches.
I want to go to hell... there's probably lots of rock to climb there.

If you are in Thailand, check out Lao Liang Island:

Awesome climbing without the crowds of Tonsai/Railey.

I think China is also seeing development of sport routes but it would be very similar to Thailand climbing me thinks.

I don't know when you're going, but Dave Peabody will be in Thailand soon (he leaves in 2 weeks), and he is there for two weeks.

PM me and I can let you know how to get a hold of him, if you are going this fall.

I read that Yangshuo is ridiculously crowded. It is China after all. I haven't been there so not sure...
