Sport climbing routes in Halifax and surrounding

Postby Krft » Wed Jun 29, 2011 4:28 pm

Not familiar with climbing in the area. I'm looking for sport climbing routes around HRM. I climb out west where the term is used often and is very popular. Don't see it used often out here. I see rope climbing but not specifically sport climbing. I'm looking for roots with pre-bolted anchors.
I've spotted an article on eastern climbing in the latest "gripped" magazine. Remember mentioning details of bunch of sport routes in musquodoboit. Can anyone point me to a link or offered details of routes? Sport climbing, not trad.

Thanks!

This is a climbers' forum so I think you can skip the explanation on the difference between sport and trad. It's a universal language.

I would start with a copy of the local guidebook "Nova Scotia Rock" which you can get at MEC in Halifax.
I want to go to hell... there's probably lots of rock to climb there.

It was tongue and cheek. :)

I hear there are some nice new sport routes at a place called the G-spot which you won't find in the guidebook. I'm sure the locals on here have better beta for you.

Your best bet for a detailed description would here: https://sites.google.com/site/echorockguides/home/maps

This is a downloadable update to the guide Fred mentioned. The update is password-protected, so you should get a copy of the guide and then you'll have access to it. But there's also a tick list which is a very complete (as far as I know) list of all the sport routes in NS.
