Re-slinging cams... gear nerd question

So... re-slinging cams with techcord. Triple fishermens... to avoid having a big clunky loop, I tied the triple fishermens around the other portion of the loop. Now it's less clunky and a looks more like a dog bone.

will this result in certain death for the user? should I stick to the normal tri-fish with a loop? any better advice on how to re-sling other then send them away and pay lots of money?

I use webbing with a water knot one of my old manky cam.

If i was to change all the slings on all of my cams I would definitely get them re-slung.
5$ a cam is not a lot of money considering how much of a b*tch it would be to have slings with knots. Ragged mountain in North Conway offers this service. Most cam manufacturers will also offer a re-slinging service.

Also I don't know what kind of cams you have, but some cams with thumb loops must use larger style webbing because using smaller dyneema and cordelette would pinch the thumb loop.

a normal triple fishermans gives you a loop

they ran a portion of the loop through the fishermans

so now instead of an O, they have something like a dogbone on a draw - like the shape of an 8 or an hour glass

don't know the strength variability though

It may depend on the type of stem/sling attachment. Wire looped stems generally have a double layer to prevent the wire from slicing through in high loads. See Dom's link.

I've seen the DMM tests on mastercam-style thumb loops where thin cord cuts through the wire as a mode of failure. I'll agree that wider webbing is a better choice for reslinging cams with thumb loops like these ones:

Ditto Dom's post. Cut to the chase and get them professionally re-slung. Had some of mine done at Ragged in North Conway and they did a good job and you can choose whatever length sling you want. $5 a cam. Tech cord will cost prob at least half of that. Do read the article on the BD website...worth a read.
