camalot c4s on mec gearswap

Postby j.root » Sat Apr 09, 2011 10:59 am

Hey so I found what looked like a sweet deal on some cams on mec gearswap but a couple things seem a little off. Wondering if you guys could help me out.

What is wierd is the stems seem different then other c4s I have seen. Also he is listing them in half sizes?

They are BD Camalots but the generation before the C4's. So they are likely minimum 3 years old. They look new and never used but his price may be a bit high. For 13 cams he's averaging $40 a cam. You can get brand new C4's for about $60 a piece plus tax.

I would try to knock his price down on the fact that nylon slings degrade over time regardless of if they get used or not.
I want to go to hell... there's probably lots of rock to climb there.

They look like they're in really good condition. When they came out with the C4s the reduced the number of cams they carry in their line up, in the past the 3.5 and 4.5 were standard and the Camalots only went up to size 5.

There are still people out there who love the old 3.5 and 4.5 way more than the new C4 sizing and would eat that deal right up. Personally, I only have a couple of C4s but I'm amazed at how comparable the weight of my #4 C4 is to my previous generation #3 (ie - they really cut down on the weight, especially of the larger cams, when they came out with the C4s).

I agree with Fred and would offer a little less than what he's looking for, but don't expect much. You have to remember that in C4s the #4 is $71, #5 is $79 and the #6 is $103. The old #4.5 won't be as big as the #6 C4 though. Looking at this chart: http://www.clydesoles.com/Front/Camsbrand.html, the 4.5 is much more comparable to a #5 C4.
