We should start listing routes that are in dire need of a scrub.

I know there are a few in Sunnyside.
Radioactive rod, Smells like rain taste like Chicken, Awe...
I will clean Radioactive Rod this summer...

I vote that we DON'T do the event in October as it is arguably the best climbing month of the year.

I agree that October is one of the best months for climbing... then perhaps November? It is easier to scrub the lichen etc when it is cold and not in a 'growing' phase.


some stuff on Exfoliated needs work. I said that I'd do chocolate eclair last year and never got out to it.

I saw it and thought it was a good idea...

I think we should even paint the beta of the route and paint what gear the route takes hahaha

- fix signage (any new signs we might want?)
- trail - which of these should we focus on/gets more traffic?
- cave to striated (maybe just remove tree if peoples dogs can't handle it?)
- cave to waterfall wall (this gets my vote - suggest bucksaw action on clearing decent trail, setting up cairns to guide people)
- routes..?

There are some bridges on the main trail between the exit to waterfall and the hill leading up to Minkey, etc. that have broken and missing boards. Anyone through CL this year would have noticed. A few scrap pieces of wood, hand saw and nails would fix it.

ill head up the route painting. i have more experience with this than anyone here and we want it done right.

I tried to fix the drainage at the far end of the 'boardwalk' this spring. A large puddle/soft mud pools from the sloping trail and the footing of the bridge. I think it needs a waterbar as well as some larger rocks to really do the trick. But should be a quick fix.

As for all the trails between striated and waterfall: There is next to no soil, limited vegetation, and very steep terrain. Any suggestions on how to build with these limitations to remedy erosion? In Bar Harbor, a gov'ment make-work project cut and stacked granite steps along and between the cliffs. That was extensive (and likely expensive). Adam may be onto something with cairns to guide people through the boulders instead of along the cliff base may help, but still need something at the belay stances...

painting routes is an integral part of our culture, and certainly no joke. I for one am glad that Mark is taking on this tedious but important burden.

I will probably rebolt (or retrobolt, whichever one is replacing) trouble with lichen and farewell to arms at the end of this season.

what ye think about adding a bolt for the anchor for Farewell? the traverse to Trouble w/ Lichen is annoying and IMHO detracts from the pure line.

Not a bad idea. Though I'm wondering what the reasoning was to not put one in the first place?

One of the first sport routes in the area, and the idea of not going to the top did not exist. An anchor after th hard climbing before the final traverse is a good idea.

Why doesn't the route go straight up to the top? I never really checked when I was doing it... Is the rock crap?

I agree that traversing makes it a little weird especially from the fact that in between the two lines there is a lot of lichen and dirt!

not sure of rock quality but IIRC the difficulty decreases dramatically the higher you go.

I was in CL this weekend and noticed that the scramble up to lower-dawn wall on L-Shape is very eroded. Seeing as this is a popular little cliff, I think we should try to build something (small drainage) to deviate the water from draining in the path.
