Gear on Cheekbone

I left some gear on Cheekbone Corner. I'll go back and get it some time soon.

Hope the situation wasn't too epic. I think a cheekbone epic is a right of passage for many around here.

no, not at all. My partner had trouble getting a couple of my pieces out. One a stuck nut and one an old cam that I seriously over-cammed.
btw, we did a rap/walk off towards amphitheatre from the top. Is that what most people do? I wasn't sure if we rapped back over the route if we'd be able to make it to a tree down below.

It's the first time I'd been on that route, what a blast.

One other thing. There was significant nesting material on the "pigeon flowers ledge" and I saw two peregrines buzzing around while I was belaying from there. I wonder if they might be nesting over there this year.

Cheers,
Liam

The retreats that I know of:

1) Rap into the amphitheatre from trees. Probably the quickest. Watch out for amphitheatre choss!
2) Rap down to the hanging belay station on strata factor direct and then to the ground. Hairy... requires you to rap off the ends of your rope and traverse sideways a bit. We've done it. Not preferred.
3) Walk off. I usually do this. Takes me less time than two raps and guarantees no stuck rope epics. Just remember your second needs to bring the flip flops.

I've never rapped the route proper. There's a lot of cracks to eat ropes through the middle adventure-climbing stuff.

With two 60m ropes you can rap from the second Strata anchor back to the ground in one go.
I want to go to hell... there's probably lots of rock to climb there.

I always walk down via the Grampa's Demise/Water Fall Wall route. Definitely the fastest way down.
