CLIMB NOVA SCOTIA ICE FESTIVAL FEB 20TH @ HALLS HARBOUR

This year's Nova Scotia Ice Festival will be on Saturday, Feb 20th at Hall's Harbour, starting shortly after 9am and going until around 4pm; low tide is around 12:30pm so conditions should be great. Afterward, there will be a shindig at Chuck's house where there will be chili and a BBQ (BYOMeat & BYOB) until 11pm or whenever Chuck has had enough of us, whichever comes first. Maybe climbing movies too.

This event is free of charge for everyone, whether it is your first day ice climbing or you've been at this for decades please come on out and tell your friends! The Dalplex Rock Court has 15-seater van and will be offering drives to and from the event if you can't find someone to carpool with; contact Heather Reynolds at 494-1605 for details. If you have extra gear to bring or if you don't have gear, please let us know in your RSVP email to climbnovascotia@gmail.com. Topropes will be rigged on most lines by the time you arrive, and CNS has extra harnesses, belay devices, helmets, crampons, and ice tools but please let us know if you will need to use them. To use the step-in crampons, you will need ski boots or similar rigid-sole boots - again, we have a few pairs but let us know if you need them, or go buy a cheap pair from a thrift store.

Wow, lots of people are stoked on Ice Fest!

If you already emailed CNS, you have a spot reserved. However, due to limitations with gear and overall routes we are unable to accommodate any more climbers who do not have their own gear. If you are still keen on getting out with us but didn't reserve a spot in time, please email climbnovascotia@gmail.com and we will let you know if we have any cancellations by Friday.

Big ups to Mick and Chuckles for making the event a huge success...

Ice Fest was a huge success this year with over 25 participants! By some stroke of luck we managed a sunny day with temps above zero, and still enough ice to climb on. There was a great mix of experience levels, from people who had never tried any kind of climbing before, through to the seasoned ice veterans. After the tide came in a good many of the participants dropped by Chuck's place for some excellent climbing slideshows (and associated tall tales) from Jamie, Seb, Roger, and Chuck.

An event like this doesn't just happen by itself, so I'd like you all to put your hands together for Chuck Sutton, Darrell Steele, Roger Fage for putting in a very long day of setting up gear, educating, belaying, and supervising the group and the newbies in particular. These guys are legends and deserve to be recognized for the great work they have done. So thank you guys, give yourselves a pat on the back.

I'd also like to thank everyone who helped to promote the event, provided a drive, loaned out their own gear, and took the time to belay or lend a hand. It's wonderful to see people getting out and experiencing the different types of climbing our province has to offer, and I hope those of you who are not yet members will consider joining Climb Nova Scotia to help support our efforts to provide events like these in the future. Thanks to everyone for coming out, I hope you all enjoyed the day!
