Ice gear

Postby Ryan_woods » Sun Dec 13, 2009 7:33 pm

This weather we've been having lately has got me anxious to learn the basics of ice climbing, I plan on attending Ice days when it comes around but was wondering If any experienced ice climbers have any suggestions on the best gear for beginners, boots, crampons, axes etc. any help would be greatly appreciated. Also if anyone knows of any other courses or anybody willing to teach a great student the fundamentals of the ice, let me know, Thanks.

for a deal on gear check out MEC's online gearswap. New gear can be expensive and sometime people are selling brand new gear for a discount.

This was originally in the Nova Scotia forum, so it wasn't directly above it then, just in the wrong category.

Tools: Petzl Nomic or BD Cobra
Boots: La Sportiva Nepal
Crampons: Grivel Rambo

That seems to be a common setup, but I'm just starting this year so don't take my word only, find more info.
