Have any of you noticed that the last 4 days or so have been pretty chilly, especially at night?

Who's going where this weekend? I want to know ice conditions! My bet is that Parlee will be in and TR-able.

Hey Anders,

Looks like no takers for NH. I'll probably make the trek in Parlee this weekend. I'll give you a ring on Friday.

Cheers,

Stef.

Planning to get out ice climbing both days this weekend. Hoping that ice has formed up somewhere by saturday. Will likely be into Parlee on Sunday...

what are people's thoughts on the ice quality in Parlee Brook after the recent weather?

I've never been there - is it possible to walk up and hang a toprope if the ice is too poor to lead?

In my opinion the only place with a remote chance of ice this weekend would be Parlee. It's always the first one to be ready. But even at that, the ice will be thin at best and it's doubtful ice would be leadable so an approach from the top may be more rewarding if there is a chance at tossing down a TR.

The sudden cold snap and snow is misleading a bit. Don't forget, it was quite warm not too long ago.

My two cents.

happy ice hunting!! Don't forget to report in here so the lazy ones like me can read your scouting reports before heading out.
I want to go to hell... there's probably lots of rock to climb there.

Looks like Sunday will be a Parlee day - even if just for a hike...though I'm sure something will be in - given that on October 16th - ECA and the back wall looked like this:

I haven't been out to Parlee yet, but I stongly expect the ice to be suitable for top-roping, yet not thick enough to take screws. There is about 6 inchs of snow with a icy crust layer on the back roads, so don't expect to drive in the top road without a 4x4. I might go in on Sunday.

The day was awesome - and saw many climbers out for the first early days of ice climbing...

Everything was led...3 amigos, blue pillar, yellow pillar, ECA, ATKH's and the back wall...
Patrick's Choice & KF gully aren't in yet - - but coming.
