Hey I got on this route yesterday. I slung both trees and after realizing how far away is the first bolt from the bottom of the birch tree , I slung a Y between branches. Has anyone else done this?? would it hold up a fall??

Luckily I didnt take any falls on any of the 2 first bolts but I'm wondering if anyone has and if so did you hit the tree??

I thread a nut through a dogbone flake from what I recall. Lets you get to the first bolt safely. Otherwise difficult moves with slung tree far below.

This route is in dire need of replacing some bolts IMHO.

I agree, those bolts are in rough shape (Didn't help that I fell on them a lot this summer... ). I'll order-up some replacement hardware.

I wouldn't cut that tree, I think most people sling it before starting the traverse on Think Pure Thoughts

I've lead that route a couple of times, and I've never had a problem with the tree. Bit ol nut goes in there about 10 feet up and the pro is fine as far as Im concerned, other than needing a re-bolting.
