Farewell

I would like to make the announcement to the local community that I will leaving the fine granite cliffs of Welsford and surrounding areas to pursue a career with Ontario MNR. I would like to personally thank the many people who have introduced to climbing (too many to name names) and who have helped me over these past few years. May all your days be filled with warm dry rock.

If you've driven on the transcanada across Ontario then you've noticed the cliffs near Wawa. They blew me away! I could hardly keep the truck on the road as I leaned out the window drooling at rock. There must be a quiet contingent of climbers in that area. There are just so many cliffs. Big ones over the water too.

Hope you find lots to climb near Wawa and can shed some light on the climbing in this remote area.

Just arrived in Wawa this morning and I noticed the big cliffs in the Lake Superior park. Anyone here ever climbed there? Can you climb in the park? Looks like something to look into.

I don't know of any Ontario message boards with an active Northern community, but it might be worthwhile to find to closest ACC section (which might be Thunderbay) and see if they can help you out.

The cliffs in those parts are amazing... and lots of them.

We drove past and all I could think of was the virgin rock just waiting to be developed. There is a crag near Thunderbay but I think the stuff around Wawa is not developed.

There is a new guidebook for Thunderbay area climbing.
