Hey, I'll be in Moncton this summer and I have 3 pairs of climbing shoes that I have to get resoled.

I was wondering where people in N.-B. get their climbing shoes resoled. Also if there is a place in Halifax I'd be willing to drive down there...

I know I could do it myself but I've seen the result on my friend's shoe who has done it himself vs my Testarossa that has been resoled by a shoe repair place in France and it just doesnt compare...

There is nowhere in eastern Canada that I'm aware of. Last year a number of us sent a large shipment of shoes to The Rubber Room in Bishop CA. The are supposed to be the best but I found in the end... the whole process was not worthwhile and I'd have preferred to sink the cash into new shoes.

shoe resoling is a money scam IMO. You'll climb better in your flip-flops than a pair of resoles.

It depends on the shoes and the resoler.

There is a guy in Toronto that is supposed to do good work. We just sent in a few pairs of shoes so we will see.

Maritime shoe rebuilders in SJ did a decent job for me. The shoes were borderline too worn to be resoled, but they did a great job. 5.10 Moccasyms. They were pretty much a gym shoe before and exclusively after, as I got new nicer fits and better performance in other models. (no sense in wasting good rubber on high mileage plastic) So I'm not really sure how they'd do in cracks and other real features. The fit was the same pre and post resole, but of course I lost sensitivity (5mm more rubber between my toes and the holds). Price was very reasonable as I recall.

Cool, Maybe I'll check Maritime shoe rebuilders out. Does he have the required rubber or you need to bring it in?

I think resoling is worth it for sure...then again I am only a poor student...

I also had a pair resoled at Maritime shoe rebuilders in SJ, they did a great job and I am still using them to date... I would give them a try

hahah Given the odor coming out of theses shoes I think I'd have to pay someone to get 'em off my hands...

But honestly I don't see what's wrong with a resoled shoe...I've done it 3 times and the 3 times the resolers made a great job.

I've been living in Grenoble, France the last 6 months and there is a resoler here who I find puts stickier rubber than what I originally had on my La Spo Testarossa!! Too bad the shoes I wanna resole are at my dad's in Moncton...

Maybe you guys have had a bad resole job experience??

I've sent a few shoes to the 'Quick Cobbler' in Vancouver to be re-soled, they did a great job... but honestly, the money is better spent in new shoes...

I have no idea about the resoling possibilities in Canada or US, but in Europe it's possible to have your shoes resoled at SOeScalade and it's very good. Last time my club sent shoes to this place, I resoled 4 pairs of shoes and paid 50% of the price for a new pair (we got some discount though, and new shoes are expensive here). All the 4 pairs felt like new, or better, because they fit better to my feet and because the rubber was sticky (Five Ten Onyx). They also last at least as long as new shoes. Maybe the rubber is a bit thicker so they might be less sensitive but this might depend on what type of climbing you are into (steep, slabs, cracks etc).
...if it's possible in Europe, why not in Canada?

The cobbler does not have climbing rubber. I've got a piece of 5mm that's big enough for a pair of 1/2 soles (forefoot -who wear's out their heels?).
I'd let it go for a few bucks or a beer.

Do you mean the quick cobbler in Vancouver? They did mine in climbing rubber... they are listed on the 5.10 website etc as the place in Canada to use....

For a lot of shoes 5mm may feel too thick. I accidentally got Nathan's Anasazi's resoled with 5mm....he wasn't impressed.

Yeah, but unlike Back To The Future, the piece I have from a couple years back wasn't transformed into the new formula. It is still Stealth.


(and though it is thick they can grind it thinner if you wish)
