history of boulderers

Postby staple » Sat Aug 09, 2008 6:53 pm

does anyone know who the initial movers were, back in what day, and where first-off specifically? are we talking eighties, or even seventies? are those people around anymore? climbing still? have recollections of events?
were there generation gaps between interest in the area, between old timers and the past decade of resurgence?

any old news would be hugely appreciated, or if anyone can point me in some other direction...yeah, thanks

Do You mean Nova Scotia specifically? Or bouldering as a pursuit in itself across North America. John Sherman's Stone Crusade and Master Of Rock a biography of John Gill (the father of modern day bouldering) I think by Pat Ament are a must read.

yeah, i mean nova scotia specifically. i remember a write-up and photo of people climbing in LOC somewhere, and i think it implied a historical contex. i could be mistaken, but i imagine it was pre 1990 that these people first started bouldering there. maybe even in the seventies?

yes, those books are good. what about a canadian version of stone crusade?
