I'll try my best, but I don't think the Beaches down on in "The Keys" have much lichen.

If someone can explain the technical process of how to make my photos file sizes smaller then I'll be able to post up some shots from the Creek...

Anyone?

hey jeff, you made it back!

I just found a free google program called picasa2 which makes it pretty easy to export a batch of photos at a lower resolution. I think to post on the message board we would have to have them stored on the web somewhere...like flikr maybe??? anybody have suggestions on recommended sites to use for that?

jeff, I'll burn a disk for you of what I have - can you do the same? i'll probably be in the gym sometime next week but i sure am sore right now!!!

Hey man!

Made it home no problem. I got an earlier flight from Salt Lake, but ended up sitting around the Denver airport for 5 hours. I visited a lot of airport bars on the way home! I also had the pleasure of drinking the most expensive beer EVER in the Toronto airport... $9!!!! If I would have known, I wouldn't have ordered it.

I will for sure burn off a disc of my pictures. In fact, I have some discs that belong to you.

I'll look into that picture program.

See you soon.

If you resize your photos do a decent size say 600x400 pixels you can add them into a message body in this forum by using the attachment features. No need for external photo posting anymore with the new phpbb3
I want to go to hell... there's probably lots of rock to climb there.

So how much tape did you go through? Great pics, keep them coming.

No tape for the purists!! (two rolls for me though!---wish I knew enough to tape all the way up my forearms)

Have you been down there in your travels Steve?

I've been thinking about Welsford recently. My rudimentary crack skills have improved somewhat now, so I'm hoping that I will be able to climb that 5.8/9/10?? crack out at Welsford with a little more style. (Can't remember the name, it's a right facing corner, easy start with an awkward thin-hands or off-hands crack finish that I thrutched up a couple of years ago)

I have not been to Utah yet, but the boys are really interested so we might have to add it to our wish list. I may have to dig out some of my old Friends to make sure we have enough.

Sean:

it took me a while to figure out what route you were talking about but I think perhaps you are refering to Waterall Layback. Here's a photo. Is that the route?

Yep, that's the one Fred. I found the top really awkward (seconding at that).

I suppose the name suggests the technique but back in Indian Creek (I'm a local now, heh!heh!) laybacking is as much admitting you don't know how to climb!! On the Waterfall layback I think I was trying to jam and not feeling very solid at all. From the photo it looks like "wide hands" (?) which can be climbed with a strange technique of cupping your hands and twisting at the elbow (not as solid or obvious as a straight forward hand jam, but it seems to work). This is all theoretical mind you. Next time I'm in Welsford I'll give'er a try --- will probably suck like the last time though!!! No doubt I'll have more fun on Warm and Sultry.

I am looking at these pics and I find myself wondering why frozen turf gets me excited...
then I remember that quality rock and steep hand jams in the desert don't give you the hotaches, which I would miss after all....

good effort troops...

You really do have to layback about 3 or 4 moves (for my height). Trust me, I did everything I could to avoid it, and I'm usually the queen of finding the odd and awkward... but layback it was, and once though it, Iooking back, I thought it to have been 100% easier than I was anticipating. Not to say I wasn't pumped...but I still made 'er though.

Yeah, you will have more fun on Warm and Sultry. But what is a day of trad climbing without the dirty, awkward and painful?
