Do you all think putting duct tape on a dog bone sling will weaken it? Im not repairing it, just a little mod.

I've seen people use colored duct tape on their slings for identifying and they haven't died yet. but that's not to say it's not harmfull.

keep in mind not all duct tapes are made from the same products / chemicals

I wouldn't do so. It's impossible to predict how the glue components (e.g. solvents and resins) will affect the integrity of the fibers in the sling. For the same reason you don't want to mark the middle point of a rope with anything not specifically designed for that purpose. Marking the sewn-in tags should be pretty safe though.

If you have a sewing machine, it is easy to mark the sewn in tags with a bright colored thread of your choice, and you can do this on your cams too... anything with a sling that has a 'name tag' on it. Then you can always tell if it is your gear... and if it gets swiped, a person is less likely to see this small discrete marking so you might find your gear down the road.

i dont need to mark my gear, i need to modify it. I just want to make a dogbone a little more snug around the edges.

I have used athletic tape to keep biners in place at the end of the draw. It ends up drying out and falling off though.

To keep the rope end biner in Screamers from flipping and flopping around I just use a rubber band and twist it around both the biner and the draw.

After thinking about it a bit more... Fred, you should really switch to lobster claw elastics to make your draws. I figure a lobster trying to escape certain death is at least 3x as strong as a broccoli in the same situation. Maybe that's over engineering the solution though? Your thoughts?

the part that Scymiec is refering to is not the draw sling replacement. You know how Petzl has the small rubber keeper at the end of the draw... and how other companies sowe the webbing tighter at one end. The clipping end of a draw is much easier to clip when it is a little stiffer such as described above.

The brocolie eleastic was actually Stef's trick.

If you want you can buy the Petzl Strings from MEC for like a $1. Those are the little rubber keepers.

green onion elastics are good too.... less bulky but probably won't last as long.

I agree. A docile lobster is always going to be much stronger than the most hot headed broccoli that is green with envy. But I think that would be way over engineered myself.

Besides how would you make sure they were new lobster elastics and not used ones? Boiling and salt water could affect the strength.

Actually, Frenchie often misses some anglo dry humor. Try watching Monty Python with him... he just doesn't get it... at all.....
