hey all.

was back up to Striated today with Jon C and we cleaned off some loose blocks on two new projects. We noticed that two of the trees near the projects we are working on had been limbed recently. Anyone been up there scoping out new lines? These are located between Miramichi Trout Hunter and Ride a Cock Horse.

Also, who uses green and red ID tape? There is an old cam stuck in a roof on a line around the corner and left of Biohazard about 200 yards left of Striated. Looks like its been there a while and starting to corrode.

I use red and green tape, but I don't recall ever leaving a cam in that area. any idea what kind it is?

kinda looked like a Kong or something like that. I don't think it was a popular brand.

At first I thought it might be salvagable but when I went up to look at it to try and get it out I noticed there was much corrosion around the axle and what not. Probably safer to remove it and throw it away.

PJ. Have you tried Biohazard yet?

I tried it once last season at the end of the day. Couldn't figure it out then, but I'll definitely get back on it this season. Seemed like a nice route though, for sure.

were you looking at the same two lines Tom? One of them goes up this layback seam to a big double roof about 20ft right of Ride a Cock Horse. Probably 5.11 ish climbing. The other one is to the right near the arete and probably goes at 5.9.

Have you climbed these ground up? I'll back off if they've been done already.

I think I've played on that layback seam on TR before. It was super slimy when I was there so I didn't spend any time on it. Good luck with it, looks like a nice line.

Yes, that sounds like the routes we were cleaning. A small finger/tight hand crack to a tiny corner, then over a small roof. Your right, it is around 11ish and the route to the right of this is not as difficult. They need more cleaning, which is my intent this season.
As of now they are both projects. I hope to finish asap.

Well no need for much cleaning on the 5.11 as I have already done this for you. Also, there is a new convenient bolt anchor at the top which can be used for both new lines as well as Trout Hunter and Ride a Cock Horse. Enjoy...

Ok then;-) A bolt anchor....grreat. The 11 should be all trad; I'm curious did you lead it? Or just scope the routes?

I was on my own so I cleaned and TR'd them on self belay.

The 5.11 is quite nice and protects with natural gear all the way except... I was thinking the bottom 15ft didn't protect very well but you might find something I didn't see.

The 5.9 was so so quality and had some good pieces but didn't seem to protect very well on the first half.

The climb we were looking at starts in the cave of Ride a Cock Horse and goes up the back wall. It is before the narrow pidgeon flowers section. Is this anywhere near your area?

yeah you start up on the first ledge for Ride a Cock Horse. There is a distinct vertical crack system that leads to a roof.
