new ice in windsor

Postby jeremy » Mon Feb 18, 2008 9:04 pm

Sandrine, Eager, Dawn, and Julie hit up an area which was new to us. 5 lines led, grade 2 to 3+ with more routes to come. 15 to 25 meters in length. Location, along the # 14 hwy, lower Vaughen (just past Martock). Past the NS Power hydro Dams. (not the area in White Rock, Hellgate headpond). 5 min approach with a key to the gate ;) Photos to come.

Nice find, J/S, and nice pics, Julia. When we going to see some CB pictures?

Jeremy: get a hair cut, or no one will confuse you for me on the rock ever again, bringing my rep down.

If you scroll to the right in the third picture it will give you a good idea what the area is like. What it does not show is the unclimbed third area just to the left. The lake will probably be too unsafe this weekend but how about next weekend some of us go back to finish the other lines? I'll bring the cheater key again.

That place looks pretty cool.
Would you guys be heading out on Saturday? I might be able to make that.

Has anyone compiled the location of all these ice climbing spots? It would be kinda cool to flag all these seeps on Google Earth and have it accessible as a layer (?) or even have a CNS web page with an embedded viewer with locations....rock too of course. Not sure if it's possible but it would be useful. Just a thought.

CNS has already looked into this. Keith was going to mark a number of climbing spots with google earth on his own web page ( with a link from the CNS page ), but I don't think anything came of it.

Sunday is looking nicer, I'd be up for heading out than.

a couple weeks ago we returned and put up 6 more routes from a short solid grade 4 to a rope stretching 60 meter grade 2+. there is some really good ice at this area. I think we climbed about everything there.

I would like to give it a try this weekend, either Saturday or Sunday.
Anybody interested? Do you have any GPS location by any chance?

Ditto, maybe Sunday? How do we find the place, now that all the 1st ascents are up?

So what about Sunday, 0830hrs at the Tim Horton on Kearney Lake Rd.
If we have more info, we can go to Windsor otherwise, Hall's Harbour.
How is coming?

Yo Alan,
You might wanna consider changing your avatar to the skull and crutches... if you get my meaning. No need for Scottish bashing of folks doing FA's on top rope... it is NS after all. Not like people are pounding frozen turf everyday (frozen turf= HAHAHAHAHA!!!)

So, is the ice in or what? It's been kinda warm/rainy lately- but I'd like to get out. Anyone got some recent details on the proposed ice?

I think proper protection for frozen turf is a Snarg:)

I know the info on the windsor ice is late, but you can find it on the NS PowerAvon River Hydro project between Falls Lake
and Macdonald Pool, There is a road but, You need to find the Lockeeper if you want to get past the gate. I doubt there is much left and the stuff off of the (Frozen) Pool in the pictures was on it's way out.

I was in Gaspe where the Snow was Plentiful as was the Ice.

I was in Gaspe, and the rock didn't look like that: it was shite. Where is this taken, Eager? Nice lead, I presume, by the way. You can climb second to this old man any time.

The picture was in Perce. We went to Snowboard in New Richmond, and climbed the last day. Definately quality stuff, Lots of pillars, and the coast was littered with ice as well enough to keep you busy for ................. a long time. I'd go back if it wasn't so late in the season? Everything was in but a lot of the pillars were detached and there was evidence of some icefall. The rock looks good from far but is far from good.

As long as yer moves don't include the splits or any type of high kicking...
I've never got a good answer about ye and yer under-kilt traditions... and to be honest... it's one of those questions to which I hope I never find the answer.

I've been confused since my last post... I couldn't figure out where your aggression was stemming from Alan. I've got it now though... you thought I was 'calling you out' with the skull and crutches comment???????????

Not the case... it's the logo from a movie:
