How long does it typically take to drive to the Gunks? Google says 10 hours; is that accurate?

Yup, 10 hours is bang on.. assuming you hit flowing traffic from Boston until you pass Hartford Conn.

While we didn't drive straight down or back, it should be approx 10 hours. On the way down we were coming from Vermont but on the way back to North Conway, from New Paltz we went up I87 to Albany, across I90 to I495 to I95. It avoids going through Boston and Hartford. Took us about 4 hours from NP to Portsmouth NH (which is about 6 hours from F'ton or SJ). That included gas and pee breaks. Google maps said to go that way too.
