Road trip in Sept.

Wonder if I can interest anyone in a road trip to the mountains for multi pitch trad routes? Maybe Mt. Washington or Cannon Cliff, anytime after Sept. 7th

I fancy Huntington Ravine, Engineers route, Pinnacle climb but maybe the end of Sept is pushing it a bit for those high altitude climbs, temp. must be going well down by then?

The rock in Huntington Ravine is not the most impressive rock you are going to see, a bit like rock climbing in Scotland, maybe. The rock is also about two hours uphill from where you park, unless we are driving to the summit carpark and walking down. Cannon Cliff or North Conway are better choices, in terms of rock quality.

I will know by the end of next week if earlier in September is possible, work wise.

Naaaa, can't be as good as Scotland, all those cold N facing crags, slimey vegetated routes, 3 hour approach hikes, fierce midgies, dour unfriendly pubs, etc.....
Hey but if it comes close then what are we waiting for???

Sort of a cross between a "no see 'um" and a fruit fly.

Migies are the worse terrible little annoying flies and Scotland (at least the Highlands) is filled with them. They will eat you alive unless its way too hot to climb, way too cold to climb or pouring rain!!

The climbing on Mt. Kathadin sounded quite interesting until I found a little more info about Baxter State park

..Bivouacs not permitted...
..Rangers will check your climbing gear...helmets required..

What??? Sounds like Baxter State Facist Police. Is this right? If so, they can stick it where the sun don't shine, I'll go somewhere else.

So, let's talk further Thursday at Henry House about a road trip in September. I am a write-off until the end of the month, due to work commitments, but could do a long weekend then, like Fri-Sunday, Sept 28-30. This is conditional upon me not having anymore ground falls between now and then, and otherwise resting my aging body. If we went to the North Conway area, there is no reason we couldn't have different objectives, but camp/stay in the same area (hostel or campground or whatever). P.

I think the tentative plan was to go first to North Conway, NH, climb there for 3 days then go to Acadia National Park in Maine for a couple of days.

Any other trad climbers out there, could be a spare seat. New Hampshire and Maine, leave Monday 10th come back by Sunday 16th. Climb splitter cracks and scary slabs!

hey you choughs !.... I may not post much, but I like to keep my finger on the pulse...nothing compares to Scotland (in the dry)....and aye, midges are the devils own creation...
A road trip like that sounds good...I will look out for pics later...good luck.
I am just back from a long weekend in Chamonix...managed to fall off the Cordier Pillar (twice) on Le Grand Charmoz...great fun though.....great bivvy though at 2800m and then a good evening in the Plan Refuge.... got about a thousand foot of cragging in too over at Vallorcine...hardest part of the weekend was affording the beer in Le National !!
Anyways, have a good 'un and I will stay tuned...cheers.

Alan, ha! I knew I would flush you out of your cover with a few scathing remarks about Scotland! Reeeeel him in! Na, just joking, I love it up there. Some of my most memorable days out were on places like Dubh Loch, Shelterstone crag, Strone Ulladale, etc.
