Wilderness and Remote First Aid Course

Hey Everyone

This fall CNS would like to offer a Wilderness and Remote First Aid course (WRFA) to its members. The course teaches valuable first aid techniques in really cool scenerios. Learn by doing instead of writing and memerizing : ) .

The course will be through Doyle Adventure and Safety and is three days long. The first day is mostly indoors and theory based with a little time outside. Day two is concentrated outside, camping overnight and another day outside on day three with a small test at the end. The course certifies for Wilderness and Remote First Aid, Standard First Aid and CPR level 3 for three years. Doyle Adventure and Safety has also agreed to hold part of the outdoor part at one of the local crags or bouldering area and we should be able to gear the scenerios towards climbing based accidents.

Price: ~185$ (tentative-won't go up, might go down)

Bottom line: Amazingly fun course thats very practical for outdoor climbers.

Wayne and I are interested, although we can get this free through guiding/scouting. The climbing injury aspect is worth the $185 though. Started a new job, so not sure if I could get the Friday off though, but keep us posted, maybe Wayne will go.

I took a course like this from Blair eight years ago, and can strongly recommend it.

The classroom program is not as boring as you might expect, and the participation in scenarios, at all hours of the day and night, are excellent and comprise most of the course.

I, unfortunately, later had to use what I learned, and appreciated that I had the course under my belt.

Good initiative by CNS.

That sounds amazing.

My girlfriend did their certification a few years ago. I've seen pictures of the prosthetics they use in their scenarios. The level of realism they manage to convey is staggering. I'd be all for it, and she's interested as well.

Note: The course won't be hosted at the crag but at the HSAR base in Waverly. Though the course won't be at a climbing area, it will still be based on climbing related incidents.

I have an exam on saturday afternoon at 2pm... I wonder if I should bother trying to go for at least friday and sunday...

I don't think you can get the certification if you're not there for the full course but you can email the instrutor to ask if you can work around it. If you don't care about the certification you might want to go anyways..
