Cochrane Lane Access - Signs

Postby Joe » Mon Jul 23, 2007 2:28 pm

This past Thursday afternoon someone removed the signs and ribbons indicating the No Travel Zone. Range Control discovered this during their routine patrols and erected new signs. If this disrepectful activity continues, public access to Area 40 may be restricted. Of course anyone could have removed the signs, but if access is closed, climbers will be impacted the most. I ask all climbers to protect the area in order to protect our access. Please report anyone you see violating the No Trespass zone. Thanks, Joe.

Joe,

we were there on Saturday and Sunday and all ribbons and signs were intact. (we did not go as far as gollums loop trail access at the right end of upper tier) We saw them at the field, at the sign in box and across the waterfall wall trail and there was no one signing in at the book except us since last weekend.

I can only hope that this behaviour was done by locals and not climbers.

Joe,

on Sunday we noticed that one of the signs in the field was laying on the ground. We assumed that a horse had ran it down and then I pegged it back in place not thinking any differently. Now I'm not sure it was a horse....
I want to go to hell... there's probably lots of rock to climb there.

My group of 5 was approached by two ?Rangers?. They were in Camo clothes and funny hats.

They told us about the signage being removed and asked us if we called in. We did. Then they asked if we signed in the log book and we did. They asked us to use our full names and we agreed that is in everyone's interest to do that. They wished us a fun and safe day and were gone.

Did anyone else run into them?

I ran into them as did Stef and Mal and Rob and Tracy. they just chatted to me about the baby sleeping in the back pack and getting an easy hike out. no mention of anything else.

We also all called in.
