Update:

the new NB rock guidebook is nearing completion. I hope to have it on the shelves within a month. Depending on my work schedule of course.

Update:

I have completed the guidebook. All routes, topos, maps, photos, beta are in place. I just need to wait for word from my advertisers and I'll be ready to print my proof for review. After that, it will be a click of a button to send it to press.

cheers

I'm not sure yet. I had that very discussion with Zig last night. I'd like to sell it exclusively here in Fredericton but then Zig pointed out I might be narrowing my market by doing that. He has sold numerous copies to MEC who distributes to all their stores. your thoughts?

I always like prebuy and look through a buide book before I head somewhere. If I couldn't pick it up in advance at the MEC in Toronto, then I would hope it would be easy to find the guide book once I got close to the climbing areas. Still doesn't help me actually find the cliffs and plan my trip before I head out, but I can do most of that online I guess. But I would at least like to know where I'm going once I get there.

This is hypothetical. If I was a little more mobile and mentally ready for gear climbing then Nathan and I would probobly be driving East for the summer vacation and we would have stopped and spent some time in NB. But I'm not, so our plans are to head west for the land of the 5.10 sport climbs around Canmore.

Hopefully next summer we'll be heading to the East.

Fred,

Here are the places I would like to see the guidebook available:

Local:

Saint John - Scout Shop
* For people in SJ to grab it before they head out

Welsford - Irving
** So people can pick one up easily just before climbing

Freddy - Radical Edge, UNB Club
*** Obvious reasons

Online:

MEC.ca
http://www.beta-source.com

I think it's rather important to have a way to buy it online. When I was preparing to go out to Clifton and Acadia, I was able to order the guidebook online.

At the very least, offer to ship it by emailing climb_welsford at hotmail dot com.

Those are my thoughts.

Climb on.

Hi Andrew,

the logistics of selling it in all those places is a pain in the rear. We want to keep it to just one or two places so that the people selling it actually have incentive to do so.. (selling more means making more money by having more customers in their stores) so if we thin it out by putting it in 4 or 5 locations, no one really wins.

Great ideas though.

All of the ads are in, the layout is complete and I have printed copies for my proof readers. If all goes well I might be printing within a week.

I have had several emails lately wondering about the guidebook so I felt I should give another update. The book was complete and I even had a completely bound proof printed here in Fredericton. However, after testing the strength of the perfect bound spine it became quickly obvious that the books were not going to stand up to the repeated use by climbers. Thus, I have had to search for a new printing company who can do sewn bound books. The books are now coming from Winnipeg. I then ran into a problem because the margin limits for the offset printing method we will now be using were not adequate which has forced me to do some re-editing to the book. Then end is near I promise.

Patience and perfection will leave us with a much better end product. This thing won't be getting revised for a number of years so I want to make sure I get it right.

cheers all

coming soon. I know I know... I keep saying that. hehe

Hey Fred, just wanted to send along my congrats even before I see the final product. It's good that you are taking the time to get it right. Im looking forward to sinking my teeth into the new issue, and turning my old copy into a collectors item.
Now, is it possible to get my own copy printed in glow in the dark braille on plastic pages, with an aluminum cord spine, High definintion 3d topos rendered by leprechans, and possibly have a beer flavored scratch and sniff page at the back for when I need that extra motivation to send? Thanks buddy, I know you'll come through for me.
Seriously though. Leprechans.
You can't take the sky from me.

hehe

I'll see what I can do. But if it took this long for the guidebook to get where it's at then it might be a bit longer for your special edition guidebook.

we are only selling at the Radical Edge in Fredericton. Mike and Mary (owners) have always been very generous with the UNB Rock and Ice climbing club and NB outdoor community in general and also use our family very well. We want to support them as a local business as much as possible.
If you have any questions while there ask for either of them for the best service. :)
