Call for Bolt Information

Postby tracstarr » Thu Jun 21, 2007 12:26 pm

Hey all, CNS is looking to gather all the information possible about the current routes in NS with bolts. Specifically, we're interested in when those bolts were placed and by who. We want to start a record for future climbers. It will help in decisions on bolt replacement. I know there are not too many sources of info out there for this..... but if you do know or have a close guess we're looking for ...

Location, Route name, number of bolts, who placed them and when

once complete this will become a public document.

thanks!

just look in the guidebook. Most of the old routes (talking really old here)bolted by Sean Willet, Nick S , &co. Newer stuff (going back 10 yrs) bolted by Me, Cassidy, Todd,Wiggles,Chris h. Not to many other people have had the itchy trigger finger. Good Luck.
Sean.

I placed two rap stations on top of Sandy Cove near Digby in 2005.

Also, a Fredericton crew placed several bolts in Cape Clear in 2005? There was a trip report by John Bowles which might give you more info on where we placed rap stations and lead bolts.
I want to go to hell... there's probably lots of rock to climb there.

Keith,

We had compiled a database in Microsoft Access that documented all the bolts, relative condition, date of placement, concerns, etc. etc. about 6 years ago. It was passed along to the next exec.....Chris Hayes...The Teth....should be around somewhere (on CD and on the old CNS computer at SNS if that still exists??/) and ideally should be used. It's quite powerful and was built to prioritize re-bolting efforts as well as document climbing access efforts (e.g., record events (incidents/discussions/fund-raising) with property owners. Hopefully it has not been lost. Let me know.

Yeah, I have it, and I even updated it a few times since Sean passed it to me. I will burn it to CD and send it to you. Email me your mailing address.

OK. The zip file is over 7MB though. The database includes maps and everything. Sean got fancy. To large for my government mail, but my Yahoo account can probably handle it.
