Folly River Gorge

Postby peter » Wed Apr 18, 2007 9:39 pm

Ya, Chris Eager showed us down there, and I climbed there twice this past winter. See post: http://www.climbeasterncanada.com/viewtopic.php?t=2825
A good area to go for a day, with no tides and very little wind (deep valley).

Hey Chris,

I was never in there but saw the pictures on a guys Flickr from Digby. My jaw dropped when I saw the ice as I wasn't sure if anyone had been in before. The main wall looks quite tall... how tall is it?

you cannot directly link photos from the album because the URL has php in it.
I want to go to hell... there's probably lots of rock to climb there.

Not exactly sure where the photos were taken as they may have been from years past? or some other part of the gorge. Some of the lines in the gorge are over 100ft for sure. I kayak the river all the time cause its steep and gnarly. I paddled the river two days ago and there are still spots along it that have climbable ice, the whole gorge is littered between Folly lake and our kayak take out which is a cemetary and is marked on the topo map. This year was the first time I've been into the Folly to climb, there's lots of stuff just be careful as the river is pretty high flow and deep in lots of spots. Check out http://www.atlantickayaker.com and watch the Folly Video.

I see. this guy was just out hiking. the pictures were taken in February of this year.

It looks really good for sure for climbing. Any ability to rap in from the top and avoid the river all together?
