Climb Eastern Canada

Granite_Grrl and I are going to be back in Halifax for Christmas and are hoping to take a few days to go up to Cape Breton and do some exploring for both rock and ice.

Any information or hunches that you are willing to share would be greatly appreciated. I can keep secrets, but don't expect me to keep something secret that we find on our own that is being hidden from us. We can only respect local wishes if we know they exist.

If anyone is interested in exploring or going out climbing with us please let us know. We will likely be going mid-week. Probably the 18th-21st.

I could be interested in getting out. We usually don't get good ice until mid Jan. Drop me a line for more info.

I climbed some ice and mixed in cape clea last winrter see TR under cape clear sticky on NS forum. There could besome more in there depending on the ice this season, without snow mobile be prepared for a trek. The coast has lots depending on the season

The highest water fall in nova scotia ( 32m / 105' ) is the North River Falls. Its a 18km hike in and out, but I walked it in June and there was still ice in the rock along the river.

I was up in the highlands this weekend trying to paddle some rivers. I'd say by the conditions I experienced driving in the cape clear area and hiking 15 kms out of a river in 2ft of fresh snow while towing my 45lb kayak that ice season is on its way. keep an eye on temps and i'd guess that in a few weeks things might be good.
