...but I want to add more to it.

Any ideas? What would you add to it to make it phenomenal?

How about an eye patch?

It would look kinda like this 8) , but with only one eye covered.

how about...

Make the skull bigger and deadlier looking, open the mouth, cracked forehead, belayer sitting with leg haning over bottom row of teeth, climber placing gear and toping out the crack on the forehead.
I want to go to hell... there's probably lots of rock to climb there.

After reading those messages, I'm going to vote to keep it simple. Maybe not having it so obvious that those are ice axes (like the current avatar has done so well) is part of its 'charm'?

People have to really notice it to realize its not skull and cross bones, but skull and cross-axe :P

Andrew is right. For a tattoo you want to keep it simple. Too much detail in it will just look like a blob. You want it to be discernable at a distance, as well as close up. Basically it would be a logo, so the same design rules apply. Sometimes if you leave enough white space, you can add detail that is only discernable close up, but does not muddle the image when viewed from a distance. This is a neat effect, but make sure it works on paper first.

The eye patch idea may be doable. Fred’s idea may require a Tattoo the size of a dinner plate.

My latest idea involves incorporating Eddie from the picture below adding ice tools a helmet and putting him in an ice setting.

Unless you are going to make it really big I would go along with what Andrew and Teth said. I think too much detail could take away from it.

Fred and I are also in the market for some new ink. Hopefully this spring we'll get some done.

I think the one you want to design is super cool...but I do agree with the rest, to do it any justice it will have to be pretty big. But nothing wrong with that!

bigger tats are always better. Getting a quarter size tat just shows you aren't ready for one.

Never said I was going to get a quarter size one. I can always fall back to my original idea. Having an iced up or not iced up climbing rope tattooed around my calf with a double fisherman knot with the 2 ends frayed.

- A tattoo should be sized appropriately for the body part you are putting it on.
- A tattoo should be designed with its final size in mind.
- A detailed tattoo has to be large, which limits you choices of where you can put it.
- The avatar logo could be put just about anywhere and look good.
- The zombie ice climber would look really cool if done right, but I would not go any smaller than the image posted, so expect at least 5" by 5".(I like the grim reaper in the background.) Might I suggest a rope hanging from his belt (harness) with an obvious core shot?

- Finally, Carra/Fred, my tattoo is considerably larger than a quarter (about 3" by 3").

I was not suggesting anyone had a quarter sized tattoo. Sorry if it sounded that way. Darn internet.

I was simply suggesting that too many people tend to get small tattoos in fear of being too big/obvious. My opinion is if you are getting body art because you want to show it why not have something that people can see when you show it.

Anyone have opinions good or bad, about all the new Tattoo parlors in F'ton. I went to Red Lion for my last one, but he is gone now. There are at least four shops in town now and I don't know which are good. Is there a specific artist you would ask for as well?

Cheer,

Stef.

Josh from the UNB gym seemed to get some decent work done at White Lotus.

well you can check out his web site here:

http://www.benjamintattoo.piczo.com/

You'ld have to talk to him about any potential work. He's on here often enough as joysquirts, so a post should get his attention. I'll tell him to have a look at this post though.
