There will be a competition at the New Brunswick Community College climbing wall in Saint John on January 14th (might change). Entry fee will be $10. Harnesses can be supplied for those without one.

awesome PJ. I'm stoked. I'll help pass the word around.
I want to go to hell... there's probably lots of rock to climb there.

Hi, I have been climbing for a little while now and I have tried a couple bouldering competitons but I've never been to a comp where you are on rope. Do you have to be able to lead climb to be in the comp, or is beginner really beginner? I have been on rope before, but have never lead anything as I am fairly new to the sport.

Thanks.

there are 3 routes at the NBCCSJ that u can lead the rest are top rope ,
so u won`t ness. have to lead anything , if your in a lower diffeculty , then u wont have to at all most likely

Route coming along

Postby STeveA » Fri Dec 29, 2006 9:20 pm

There are 15 routes set so far. We hope to double that number by comp time. The routes will not be classed as beginner, etc, but rather will have points that will reflect the difficulty of the route. All climbs are based on the assumption that climbers have climbing shoes. The club have a varoety of shoes if someone needs to borrow any. Also harnesses are available for free if people need them. If you do not have your own belay device then you will have to use one of the clubs Gri-gris.

There will be some lead routes for the experienced climbers. There will be strict rules and guidelines for belaying and leading on the lead routes. These will be explained at the start of the comp. There will be experienced belayers available if anyone is nervous.

Since there are no climbing stores in Saint John we are not going to be offering a pile of prizes. Instead we will use the entry fee to supply bottled water, gaiteraide, pop and coffee, along with fruit and vegetables, sandwiches and donuts. The first place winners in the beginner, intermediate and expert category will win their entry fee. We will have certificates for 1st, 2nd and 3rd so you will have bragging rights.

All the holds were removed from the wall (about 500 in total) and hand washed by Jon and Peter. They look pretty.

Hope people can make it.

Steve

Jon and Peter look pretty? Gosh, I bet they do after all that hold cleaning.

i hope you guys put them on the back of the truck and took them to the pressure wash car wash and didn't do them in buckets of water cause that method really really sucks. (speaking from experience here of course...)

Routes ready

Postby STeveA » Fri Jan 12, 2007 4:46 pm

31 routes finished. 12 easy, 9 intermediate, 10 hard.

We will be at the gym about 9am so if you want to come early to stretch etc feel free to do so.

We will have juice, pop and water along with fruit and donuts. We also have tape for those who need it. Harnesses and a limited range of shoes are also available. All included in the $10 entry fee.

My cell number is 506-663-1077 if you need directions in the morning.
