UNB Rock and Ice Club Permit for Temporary Use of the Cochrane Lane Cliffs
Renewal of the UNB Rock and Ice Club permit for temporary use of the Cochrane Lane cliffs for this year (2006/2007) is underway. Base Gagetown has been very accommodating again this year. After meeting with base authorities the process has been slightly modified this year to make the permit process more clear for both the users and the Base. The expectations of UNB Rock and Ice members are as follows:
(1) Sign in via telephone the day of desired land usage (422-2000 ext 3121). You must provide your name a contact number and expected departure date and time. You now do not need to sign out.
(2) In case of club organized group activities (Rock/Ice School, Safety Courses, junior program, KIN 2883 class or any other organized groups), one monitor must sign in (see above) and report the number of participants in the party along the basic information as indicated in (1), but need not provide all the groups participant’s names. This assumes all participants have signed both the UNB and Base Waiver available at the UNB Rock and Ice Club indoor wall and online at http://www.unbf.ca/clubs/climb/.
(3) In the case of an emergency club members must call 422-2000 ext 2482, along with any call placed to 911. This will expedite rescue services should they be required, as well as inform the Base of any emergencies directly. The above emergency number will soon be posted on a sign above the current sign-in box where first aid supplies are located. Emergency services should not be taken for granted and each climber should be self sufficient and do all they can to ensure their personal safety, including carrying personal first aid kit, be informed, well trained and apply every possible safety precaution available.
Please abide by these few rules to ensure this privilege of land use continues. Also, continue to be stewards of the land as you have shown to be in the past. Enjoy the coming climbing season!
UNB Rock and Ice Club wishes to sincerely thank CFB Gagetown for their cooperation with this matter and the privilege of property use.
Thank you,
John Bowles
President UNB Rock and Ice Club
