4 hours to hoist them up a half pitch??!!?? I have set up these exact rescue system in the past and this seems to be a VERY long time..... especially with such a large group to help! still tho, good job to the rescuers! Looking forward to get more details on the rope failure...

Seems like if they allowed bolted anchors at otter cliffs, this would reduce rope wear significantly. I'm not speculating that this is the reason the accident happened but am saying that their Ivory tower policies are sometimes disconnected from a reasonable practice.

This has to be bad for business and for climbing insurance premiums...

Glad they're OK.

How the heck did two people fall 25 feet at otter? A guide simul rapping with a client? Should be interesting to find what really happened. Media must have this one messed up.

A bit more info here...http://www.neclimbs.com/forum.php
From the pic in one of the links on neclimbs looks like they were in an area at otter that is only 25 feet high and they fell from the top. Still can't figure out a scenario where the rope gets cut, the guide falls (and lands on his client) and hauls his other client off the top with him. He's going to have his client up top tied off to the anchor and not to himself.
