I edited your second link. There was a bracket missing in the code.

Thanks for pulling posting the vids!

why do you say the soloist is a tool?
I want to go to hell... there's probably lots of rock to climb there.

I think soloing in front of a camera is an absurdly self-important act. What's his motivation? Is it so he can make a badass video and look cool? He'd have a hard time convincing me that he's doing it to achieve a pure expereince with the rock/ice. I don't think much of media stunts that make glamour out of needlessly unsafe stunts.

Can we at least all agree that dude in video #2 is a tool? Dislodge a fridge sized boulder and snicker 'wow'. WTF? Ever heard of 'RRROOOOCCCCKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!'

I'll agree that No.2 is a tool but No.1 is only a tool maybe because of the camera but not because he solos.

I'd have to agree with Fred. Though I dunno. I'd have to ask the guy about it I guess. We think it's cool when we see videos of ourselves climbing hard routes, what's the difference if we remove the rope? I think the guy displayed excellent control and skill to be able to do that. I certainly couldn't. Would I love to be able to? Yes. Would I if I could? You'd have to ask me then.
I don't like to see people solo around me because I don't want to be placed in the situation of choosing to help them if they crater, but I certainly admire a competent soloist's ability. Watching Ulysse solo is inspiring for example.

Another cool clip http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3HxxzfUfFGk&NR=1 I love how the snow flows like lava near the end. Makes you realize just how helpless you'd be in that terrain trap near the bottom
