Is there a guidebook out there for clifton?? Or any suggestions on good routes and where they are located?

yes there is a guide book, and yes you will need it. The routes are confusing enough with the book. Also Eagles bluff is where most of the good climbing is at!

Alpenglow adventure sports in Orono has the best guidebook it has routes for all the crags, Eagles bluff, Parks Pond, Big & Little Chick, Fletchers Bluff, the book is kinda primitive but it has all the routes and is a must for anyone going more than once.

we should mention you can camp for free at Eagles Bluff main parking area. There are a lot of fun routes at Eagles.

If there is one route you must do it's "Eagles Gift" Bring one or two pieces of gear in the easy section. The rest is bolted.

I'd like to SECOND Fred's note about the Clifton Guidebook being just a 'little' hard to follow in many parts. Clifton, however, is a VERY fun spot with very nice rock and good routes.

I think the book is pretty good myself. I didn't have any troubles finding stuff.

Eagle does have some nice routes but I find Big Chick to be nicer. Great moderates that are nice and long (150-180feet). Bolts are spaced more sporty than Eagle. I guess there are more routes now than in the guidebook. Steve A was talking about some great 7's and 8's on the left side that are all bolted and nice and long as well. Fletcher's is also great if you can find it and if you climb hard 11. I personally don't go there. Slightly overhanging and square cut crimpers.

we talked with a guy when we were at Parks Pond and he mentioned there were a bunch of new routes at Big Chick. He also showed us a bunch of new lines he developed at Parks Pond. Some nice lines.

As for Fletcher, the road is now closed off. So it's a 2-3 hour hike/approach.
