I have tried the wide lines in Squamish. I actually found them more difficult but then again I wasn't use to them. I think it all comes down to having a good consistent set-up. I have a solo set-up with a 30' static rope for tensioning. I make a 5:1 with a shunt and run it back through an old ascender. The main line is 1" webbing tied off with a munter mule. It isn't the most convenient set up but you can def get it tight enough with one person.
Has anyone check out this cord called Amsteel ? I think it is what Dean Potter had set up for the Taft Point line.
