Hey I heard there was a serious climbing accident in New Brunswick within the past few days... supposedly a 31 yr old male fell 30 ft to the ground. Anyone know about this?

A 33-year-old man from Dartmouth, N.S., is in critical condition after falling from a rocky cliff near the Cape Enrage lighthouse.

The area in southeastern New Brunswick is a popular destination for rock climbers.

But RCMP Sgt. Gary Cameron says the man didn't have any formal training and he wasn't climbing with an organized group.

"There was nobody else present, but a girlfriend," Cameron said. "It wasn't an organization or an organized trip or anything like that. It was just a couple along the water."

Cameron said the man also lacked the proper equipment, so when he slipped there was nothing to stop him from falling 10 metres to some rocks below.

The man's name has not been released.

What they should have said was 'moron testing Darwin theory'.

And cape enrage is HARDLY a destination for climbers. IT SUCKS!!!!!

What you doing to celebrate your departure, speaking of epics?

Well- right now I'm on a stair master equipped oil rig in Alaska- that's been kinda fun. 3 more sleeps to get me home. I'm headed to a stair master equipped all inclusive place in Dominican Republic for a week in around 10 days. 1 week home and it's off to Georgia.

I've been doing an Atkins type diet with plans to start pumping carbs back into the system about a week before the climb. I think that my body will be happy to have them back. I may even quit smoking for the trip....but I don't know what my bod will think of that ...so I may just slow down a bit while on the mountain.

Oh yeah- got the Sierra Designs goods. Pete says it's all really nice lookin stuff. I can't wait to see it. We got new boots from our employer too- gotta get the liners into the oven to get the form fit. 180C for 12 minutes then straight into the shells.

Other than that- just counting down the days.

This sounds like a modified Don Whillans training program, who apparently lived the belief that training could start on the approach. You guys will do fine!

Hey interesting topic on boot forming Mike... Any insight on making my boots more comfortable? they are an old pair of Koflachs, with plastic outers. They are the right length but seem a bit narrow, and I'll be in 'em for a while. My feet were a bit sore after our 'excursion' in Cape D'Or. I've heard of heating the plastic with a hair dryer and then forming.... will this work???

I don't see how it gives "us" a bad name at all. I thought being a hardcore training super climber was what it was all about? Without the danger, what would keep regular people from enjoying it? I think it makes us sound cooler.

Yeah- get some new liners- intuition liners rock.
Better yet... get some new boots. Atlantic Offshore sold us our Vasque Ice 9000's for $375... cheaper than a big weekend of drinking.

as for Don, well, he was probably a bit younger than me and Pete. That's the way I used to do it though. I wonder if I'll see a difference?
