Bouldering Around Digby - This Weekend

I'll be in Digby for the next 4 days if anyone is interested in bouldering.

I'm definitely interested. What's the best way to get ahold of you?

I can go anytime Thursday, Friday, or Sunday. I'd like to go to "Planet of the Apes" in Sandy Cove. Where are you based?

I think I'm going to be busy tomorrow but I'll come Sunday. Derek Smith told me about the area and sounds amazing. My cell is (902) 403-5862 if you want to get ahold of me and make some solid plans. I'm out near Berwick now so it's not too far for me to go.

Sunday morning sounds good. I have to catch the boat back at 4pm.

I'll be there from 9:30 to 12:30. You know how to get there?

I've been to Trout cove but not Sandy. Is there somewhere easy to find where I can meet you. I'll try giving you a call tonight. I also may have a few others with me who want to go climbing.

Here are some directions.

Drive down the Digby Neck. A few minutes (2-5 min?) past Troute Cove you will come to Sandy Cove. Take a right on Bay Road at the bottom of the hill. Follow Bay Road all the way to the end at the Bay of Fundy. Park here near the sandy beach (beach on left) and old wharf. When looking out at the ocean, hike to the right along the rocky coast line in the opposite direction from the beach. I think it's about a 15-20min hike to the boulders.

With those directions I should be able to meet you at the boulders. I'll be driving a gold coloured Chev Cavalier with NS plates. I'll be leaving Digby at 9:00 so should be there by 9:30 ish.

absolutely amazing area! More than fifty quality problems, rock is well featured and the approach is short. I would recommend camping in the area and spending a weekend there. Plus there are two great rope climbing walls very close by.

The climbing was really fun. Gritty Pillow Basalt, super friction, and some very cool problems. Some landings are bit sketch, but with a few more pads and spotters it'd be all good. Most are medium height, only a few highballs.

The scenery and location are superb and I'd actually guess at more than 50 problems if you got down to counting. I'm sure that the Smiths have a bit of mini-guide going to the area as they've been many times.

I've been to Sandy Cove three times now for bouldering and I haven't climbed the same problem twice. This area has lots to offer for everyone. Every time I turn around I spy a new line. The rock can only be described as fun! At first I thought all the problems were vertical and juggy but I have since found lots of challenging lines.

Also, for those interested in camping for an extended weekend, I did see a bunch of people camped out on the beach right next to the cars. This would make for an excellent weekend getaway. There is lots of driftwood around that would make a nice fire. I'm not certain if camping is permitted but the locals seemed to lead the way.

Glad to hear that people have been enjoying the area. When Conan and I were there we camped at the beach and had a fire - no problems. Actually, a couple locals directed us there themselves - actually escorted us to make sure we would find it! Great spot.

Hi - my guy and I are coming up from Ontario and will be staying in the Digby area next week (July 13-17), hoping to do some climbing at Trout or Sandy Cove. Just wondering what kind of gear we need to bring with us (do we need to set anchors?) and looking for beta on the climbs. Also, if anyone is in the area or wants to make the trip out, we'd love to go with people who have been before or who want to come explore with us!

I just checked with a couple of my pals from High School who live near Sandy Cove and they just confirmed this. Tents and small campfires are no problem. Be respectful, keep the noise level down and clean up your trash. Good behaviour will ensure continued camping!
