Terrance Bay bouldering

Postby Sarvey » Thu Sep 25, 2008 10:17 am

Hi everyone,
I have recently come over to Halifax from the Uk, Im scoping out the various bouldering areas - they look sweet! Am I right in saying there are access issues with the bouldering around Terrance Bay?... I don't want to piss off some landowner and screw up for everyone.
Could anyone update me with Terrance access issues? Are there any areas in Terrance Bay woods we can boulder freely?
Cheers peoples.

Hey Si,

The Terrence Bay bouldering area is closed indefinitely at the request of local landowners. Please do not attempt to climb there.

There is an area called Grover on the other side of Terrence Bay but it's a bit of a hike and boasts mainly difficult lines. Many other areas exist close by with plenty of classic lines to keep you busy!

Try Crystal Crescent beach, Chebucto Head, the Land of Confusion, Pollys Cove, or Dover Island. All are within 40 minutes drive of Halifax and are well documented in Ghislain Losier's "Bouldering in Nova Scotia" climbing guide available from the Mountain Equipment Co-op store downtown.

Alternatively, if you don't mind getting your hands dirty, there may be a crew headed to Main Face for some route cleaning and rope climbing this weekend. Check the board for updates!

cheers

Grover isn't all about hard lines. There's low single digit problems there.

You can also check out "Eastern Tide" to get a good sampling of the bouldering around Halifax. It does cover Terrance bay but that was shot before the closure. You can get Eastern Tide at MEC or on my website. Alternately, some one around here has acquired the ability to rip copies of the DVD and might sell you one cheaper than me. :)
