Fred,
Is there really a need for all the subcategories you have on the forum?
Why not keep it simple and have just 3: NB, NS, NL?
Most of what any of us have to say is BS anyway - hardly a need to specialize beyond that!!

I think you would find the forum would get pretty cluttered without being subdivided. Mostly for walk-ins who don't make use of the login feature. This way things are classified accordingly.

Categories, subdivisions, classifications are a useful tool for scientists, engineers, and librarians, but they have no value to people who just want to post comments about climbing. There does not have to be order, you know. Disorder is just fine. Clutter is nice, too.

Don't mind Fred. He's got a headache and is extra cranky today. ;)

Sometimes, when I am feeling really naughty, I just dump my climbing stuff out of my pack in a pile! I mean, on the garage floor! Can you believe it! I don't even sort my pro by colour! Or separate my approach shoes, hiking boots, mountaineering boots, and two pairs of climbing shoes by function! It is just one big mess! (But don't tell anyone. I am secretly ashamed on my behaviour. We will add it to our list of "our little secrets".)

I was also wondering what the point of categories is on this message board. I never know where to post a message about my offensive content that i post on my blog. (which by the way, has a much broader viewership that this board and has no negative comments posted to it yet. Here is your chance.)

Categories are useful for archives, but for general reading, not so much.

i think the categories are just fine. i tend not to read most of what is posted in the NS forum because it doesn't apply to me, and i don't need to know who is going bouldering with who.

can you show me a forum that doesn't use categories?

General or NS.

I would say it more towards general, but since most of the stuff is about NS or involves NS climbers it could go the other way.

Common Adam, they do rope climb occasionally in NS. :P

Doesn't supertopo only have one forum? That is the only one I can think of that might be that way.

But do the Moderators move threads around on those forums? If a NB climber goes to NS and does a post about it on the NB board when he gets home, why move it to the NS Board? I post on the UKClimbing Board, and have never seen a thread moved.

well that's a different point all together, and one that i think has been touched on before.

i think there's a distinction between moderation and management that maybe is being blurred.

I'm going to ask it since no one else will - How did it taste? And would Frank's make it better or just cover the natural falva flav?

Todd, yet another great video. I am super-psyched to see Night Sessions and hear more about your NF trip when I get back to Halifax at the end of the month.

Ben, I think you are more than justified in eating that squirrel. I agree with your sentiment that to not eat it would have been wasteful and disrespectful after it had been killed. I think, in this country, that most people are very detached from the fact that the "meat" we buy and consume from restaurants and supermarkets is actually "dead flesh" of recently living, breathing, and often cute, animals. I am of the opinion that if you wouldn't be willing to kill an animal yourself, you ought not eat it. If you do kill something it is wrong to waste it.

Chris, you might want to get that itch checked out.

cheers

That is the only kind of "moderation" on RC.com.

Im totally on board with the categories. I find it to be a super smooth system to use. And I don't have to be reminded of that silly Island province I lived in a while back if I don't want to be.

(ahem. Joke).
