HEy anybody know where there is good climbing in the Valley area? Anyone out there from the valley looking for someone to climb with?

where abouts in the valley are you? are you on base in greenwood?

Digby has some sweet sport climbing and bouldering.

you are about 45 min to Digby, and another 30 to the climbing from there.

it is worth the drive for an afternoon.

Fred and I will be there a lot this summer if you want to check it out sometime.

Myself and Scott Guenther did a couple short routes down by and old saw mill. Not really worth comming from Halifax for but not bad for top roping.

There are some top ropable cliffs and some bouldering just past martock near the NS power generating station on the avon river. If you have the windsor topo map it's called Moses Mountain. Good quality granite, but nothing has been climbed there yet, so you may have to do some scrubbing.

Sean Cassidy's guide page 178, pretty much all the routes have been top roped but as I recall there was some potential for some sport routes.

thanks for the info. Cara and Fred, I'd be delighted to climb with yuse guys this summer. You are talking about sandy cove in digby right? Is there good places to top rope? I am not even close to beginning my 'leading' career yet. But anxious to start learning!

I started top-roping in my collage days (about ten years ago) on a cliff above Clarence, which I accessed via a logging road and ATV trail at the top of North Mountain. There are some old photos (of me looking like a real hick) and a map on my web page. http://members.tripod.com/novascotiaclimb/ (Or novascotiaclimb.com). That and the Mill Crag are probably the closest cliffs to you.

I'll have to try the clarence spot, thanks teth. The old mill is about 10 mins from my place so its the most accessible. Did you ever climb the outer side over the water with the big diagonal crack? I've only tried the inside left climb. Doesnt seem like the best place to learn about pro though... what do you think?

There are lots of top ropes in Centerville (trout cove) tons of bouldering, and Fred and I plan on doing some developing in Sandy Cove this summer. There are a few lines there now, but room for much more. both areas are near Digby, and about 15 min apart.
