Trad Climbers Are Candy-Assed Wimps

Postby peter » Fri May 27, 2005 11:45 am

So, my Stoners topic got views and no replies, maybe this one will.

Anyone want to do a little climbing and some paddling this weekend? Something fresh, like Ship Rock, Easter Island, Crown's Nest. ...

Well, that got as many views in a couple of hours as the previous topic did in a couple of days. I think I am on to something. Just like "sex sells", "flaming sells". But who actually wants to climb, as well?

I'll be climbing sunday in Digby but it's a bit out of your way. You are welcome to make the trip down but make sure to bring nice weather.
I want to go to hell... there's probably lots of rock to climb there.

Sunday climbing

Postby Stevo » Sat May 28, 2005 3:43 pm

So is anyone heading out to the coast? Forecast is now 2-5mm rain and fog. Crows Nest will be wet, Ship Rock will be wet, leaves Easter Island and Medecine wall.

Cheers

Thom's out, with duties (not necessarily of the sort Mike is fond of labelling) tomorrow.

I will seek my exercise in other ways, I think.

Next weekend.

Hey speaking of candy-ass, I (thru no choice of my own, I assure you) went to the Cabot Trail Relay Race and ran, vise going climbing in the rain. I hope this doesnt mean I cannot be a trad climber now, as there has gotta be some rule against this type of behavior.

Hey Peter and Thom, where were the ladies this weekend?

About 400km from you, which is about right...

I bowed out of the relay, when offered a spot on a team, as I had driven to and from Ottawa the weekend before, and didn't want to see the inside of a car for five hours each way.

We did sent a rep though: Dave "Thor" Reid.

I figured the weather didn't favour climbing on Sunday, so I ran a half marathon instead. There can't be a rule against that.

On a side note, I produced the map for the Cabot Trail relay. I won a national award for it. I have also run legs 1, 2, and 15. Climbing is a lot more fun than running, but if you have to run, the Cabot Trail is a great place to do it. And if you run legs 9 or 10 you can almost call it an alpine summit attempt (light and fast method). My father won leg 10 (MacKenzie Mountain) one year when the lead runner stopped to puke just 100m from the finish.

I puke every time I run.

If you don't puke, you aren't really trying.

Postby climberwannabe » Sat Jun 04, 2005 4:22 pm

Yeah 9 and 10 are baddass. I ran leg 7, and came 7th. I was pretty happy as it was my first race. 17 would be a blast to run with all those ppl cheering.
