E-day!

Postby Rich » Tue Sep 23, 2008 8:51 pm

This Saturday Sept 27th (weather permitting), the E-Gully at Main Face is going off!

For those who aren't familiar with this place, the E-gully has some of the best moderate trad climbs in the province and is also home to some of the hardest projects around.
Unfortunately, many of the established classics don't get a whole lot of traffic and as a result are a weee bit dirty.

So, CNS is sponsoring a "Clean and Climb a Classic / Route development" day. The idea: show up at Main Face at 10:00 am, spend a couple hours cleaning routes and the rest of the day sending. CNS will provide wire brushes and will be giving away prizes.

The E-Gully really is a high-quality climbing area and it's a shame that its great lines don't get climbed more. So, whether you haven't been here before and would like to check it out for the first time, you often visit but have always been reluctant to get on that aesthetic line due to some dirty footholds, or you've an interest in hard projects , come on out. It doesn't cost anything to attend but you must be self-sufficient in terms of rappelling and whatnot.

A post will be made Friday if the weather looks too sketchy.
Hope to see you there

I would also like to add that people who are not yet CNS members can purchase a membership at this event.
Again a 2 year membership is $20 and a family is $25. We can accept cash and personal cheque made out to "Climb Nova Scotia".
cheers

It would be good to see some faces out there. Come out, grab a brush, spend the morning cleaning and the rest of the day climbing. The more people we have, the faster we can clean and the sooner we can climb.

Again there will be prizes at the event and memberships can be purchased. The climbing season (not to be confused with bouldering) is coming to an end so get out before its too late!

Hope to see you all there.

For those of us who have not been before, and don't have a guidebook, is it reasonably easy to find?

Patzer - its easy to find - from Musq. harbour go inland (towards meaghers grant), in 5-10min you'll see a gated dirt road on the left (gate is black with "R" in it), park on the side of the road here and walk along the old road - in about 30-40min you'll get to a cabin at the top of the cliff - if you make your way down to the water from here you'll be walking down the E-gully.

Aidas - I can't see a dog being a problem unless its on perma-bark mode.

Weather looks crap but we'll wait till tomorrow to determine.

aidas if the owner of the cabin is there he has 2 very large very aggressive dogs so beware..also it is a pretty flowers area to have a dog anyway just from my dog owning perspective, no where for them to run etc.
Also a question...last I heard you had to be a member of CNS to climb at MainFace if approaching from on top via the priv road and cabin approach is this still the case..just curious?

Oh how the tables have turned...

I'm driving out to Main face tomorrow for a cleaning/climbing day at E-Gully and I have room for 3 more people!

Come on out for a bit of cleaning and a day of climbing!

There's prizes too! All you need is a harness and belay device, we have all the other gear you need. Post up or email me if you want a drive, I'm leaving from downtown Halifax tomorrow morning.

Yep, at the the gate at 10:00. I only bought 6 brushes cause it seemed like a lot of people were unavailable this weekend, but have a couple more at home I'll bring. If anybody has a favour brush - feel free to bring it along! I'm assuming that should be enough but if anybody has news of unanticipated hoards of scrubbers coming out to contribute to the cause post up and I'll pick up some more brushes!

What a beauty of a day yesterday at E-Gully!

Thanks to everyone who came out and cleaned and climbed. Thanks to CNS's efforts, four classic lines at main face are in pristine shape, plus one more siiiick testpiece that will go down soon for sure.

Seb L. won a door prize; a new CNS Sickle organic t-shirt! There'll be more prizes and more brushes at the next cleaning day, details to follow!
