Sunday and Monday Ice Daze

Postby mike » Tue Feb 14, 2006 10:14 am

Got a group of 3 so far.

We're thinking about Moose River again. East Branch. 5km of road and 600M of forest to the valley.

We're planning on heading out from Steve-o-Renos at 8am Sunday morning, camping in the valley Sunday night and heading back on Monday evening.

If there's anyone interested in coming out for just Sunday- it'd be a good idea to have a partner and a cell phone in case anything happens on the walk back out to yer car.

One of the guys who is interested needs crampons and axes... who's got the CNS stuff?

Climb on,
Mike

There the Black dimond Ice climbing crampons.. I used them last year at deep cover.

I have a 4door truck, so I can take up to 5 people down with lots of gear for a day trip. But its a pig on gas, So I'll be looking from some help! Is there alot of snow? Should I bring snow shoes?

Due to an unexpected call from the money providers.. I've gotta downgrade my commitment to Sunday only (I fly offshore on Monday morning), I could be convinced to go out on Saturday though.

Either way though- I think that any self respecting truck should be able to make it in. There's one spot that we went a bit deep into- but nothing a few well placed logs won't fix. There were a few lying right by that spot in the road- so it'll be sweet.

Maybe we should just go on Sunday- we'll have motorized access to the end of the road and everyone will be able to get to the valley without any trouble.

What do you think?

I just came back from a day of fieldwork at Cape St. Marys and along the coast towards Yarmouth and all the waterfalls along the coast are thawing like crazy. Nothing looks stable anymore.... We need some more cold nights before Sunday otherwise it doesn't look very good.

so are you still in? Might be a nice drive back from Moose River with the windows down too.
The ice was moderately thick last weekend and the valley is pretty sheltered- who knows?- we might even get some climbing done.
