One pair of peregrines are again nesting at the Cochrane Lane cliffs this year. They have relocated the nest site to the L-Shape area of the cliff, a site last used in 2008. The birds are nesting near DDT and Some Enchanted Evening.
All climbing routes are now closed between “Partners in Crime” and “Gumby’s Roof”. This includes all routes within Dawn Wall, Upper Dawn Wall, Gallery Wall, The Alley, and the left side of Joe’s Garage to Gumby’s Roof. These areas will be closed until 1 August, or until further notice.
CFB Gagetown's Range Control has been notified of this closure. I assume they’ll put up a map or notification at the cliff, and will be enforcing this closure.
The old nesting site around Cheekbone Corner will be open to all climbing.
This closure is similar to what we used in 2008. Generally, the nest is high on the cliff, and very hard to access from the top. This closure will provide the birds with adequate protection from any disturbance from climbers.
Thank you for your cooperation in protecting the breeding success of these rare birds.
