Pyramad/Pyramid History

Postby Fred » Thu Jun 16, 2005 12:21 pm

I'm looking for a bit of history from some of our more experienced climbers. I'm wondering who found and named Pyramid Wall. Also, the sign on the trail says "Pyramad Wall" but it's always been called "Pyramid Wall" in guidebooks (well the ones I've seen anyways). So I'm wondering who made those signs. There are two sets of signs in the area from two different generations. The wooden ones with black letters and the wooden ones with white letters. The Pyramad sign would be an old old one with black letters. I'm just wondering if this was someone's interpretation of the name or if it is in fact what it was originaly called. If so I think we should restore the original name. Seeing how tons of climbing routes are play on words I figure there is a good chance Pyramad wall may have in fact been the original name.

cheers
I want to go to hell... there's probably lots of rock to climb there.

You don’t really realize so much how high you are, and then you fall.

I don't know who originally named Pyramid Wall, but I'm pretty sure I know who made the signs with the black letters. Rather than embarrass anyone, I'll just say that "Pyramad" was simply a mispelling. At least that's how it was explained to me.

I believe the signs with the white letters were made by the outdoor club at Ecole St. Anne, when Karel was teaching there.

Pyramid Wall

Postby STeveA » Mon Aug 15, 2005 10:09 pm

Pyramid wall was named by Richard Burton and me. The signs were a mispell, but it seemed appropriate to leave them. This area was a place of conflict for a while since many trees were removed to clear the area off.
You are, therefore I am. That is the question....
